Hydrex is always looking for new ways to service the shipping and offshore industry and has shown that technology can be developed and extended to encompass many different fields of underwater repairs and replacements.
For its innovative work in this field Hydrex has already won the 2002 Lloyds List SMM Award category of "Innovation in Naval Shipbuilding and Marine Technology". The award was given for Hydrex's development of the cofferdam principle where it has created a whole new field of operations and methods that save significant amounts of time and money for ships, FPSOs and other vessels when underwater repairs or replacement operations are needed.
At the time of the award, these techniques were mainly applied to the repair and replacement of thrusters using 'mobdocks' (mobile mini dry docks) to seal off the thruster tunnel. This allowed technician divers to access the 'dry space' underwater and carry out repairs or remove and replace the thruster altogether. (please visit the special mobdocks page for more information)
We have continued to develop these principles and now carry out stern tube seal replacements underwater. We have just completed a major job within a very tight time frame of the removal, transport to shore, repair and re-installation of the swing up azimuth thruster of an offshore crane vessel , hereby keeping it on schedule. Current projects include the development of a whole new service for offshore units and designing and building a maintenance system for thruster units in order to enable repairs on location.
Hydrex does not only solve problems, we can help you prevent them as well. Much of the repair works to a vessel can be avoided when regular maintenance to the ship is carried out. Hydrex does this necessary effort for you.
Should you have any special requirements or need any work done that seems extremely difficult or challenging, please do not hesitate to contact us for advice on how it could be done.
