Hydrex on site hull repair services include the renewal of both small and large areas of damaged hull plating. These repairs can be carried out above or below water, according to the circumstances, with tailor-made mobdocks – no need for drydocking. Normal commercial activities can therefore continue without disruption.
Hydrex diver/technician teams carry out these in-situ hull repairs all over the world. In most cases the damaged area can be replaced with a permanent insert and no condition of class is imposed.
Hydrex developed and delivers permanent hull repairs on vessels afloat, fully approved by all the major classification societies. No need to go to drydock. No need to redo later in drydock. Gets your ship back in business fast, saving time and money.
How do we do it?
We start off with an inspection to determine extent of defect.
1. Made-to-measure cofferdam secured on outside of hull to keep water out and create a dry environment during repair
2. Crack removal/defective plating cropped
3. Insert fitted
4. Insert tacked in place
5. Full penetration welding from inside the ship and frame renewed as needed
6. Independent ultrasonic testing to verify the welding.
The cofferdam is then removed. (Each step is checked by class before proceeding.)
The result is a fast, economical, permanent hull repair, carried out where and when convenient to you, without major interruption of operations. Approved by all major classification societies.
Don’t wait to go to drydock. Get hull cracks and damage repaired now, afloat, permanently.
On the rare occasions where the damage does not allow such a repair, a temporary doubler plate is installed over the affected area. This allows the owners to keep to their schedule until the next scheduled drydock visit when they can arrange a permanent repair.
Cofferdam repairs can also be used for the installation of scrubber sea chests. We can help you when going to drydock is not an option, if the scrubber equipment is not available yet during docking or if the scrubber system needs to be installed before the next scheduled docking. We are able to carry out the installation of sea chests while your vessel stays afloat and in most cases during cargo operations.
