Propeller repairs

Hydrex has worked extensively at repairing propellers all over the world. Our expertise in analysing the problem and making the right kind of repairs is well-known.

Working closely together with the Dutch propeller manufacturer Van voorden (www.vanvoorden.nl) Hydrex has developed underwater techniques for the straightening of bent propellers.

Prior to this technique, it was not only necessary to crop the damaged blade but the opposite blade as well, in order to maintain propeller balance. This method, while often required, results in additional work costs and a loss of efficiency that is proportional to the extent of the damage.

Where it is possible to use the propeller straightening technique (obviously, blades that are cracked or broken will have to be cropped), the blades can be restored to a good condition with little loss to the propeller efficiency.

Cropping badly damaged blades is another service provided by Hydrex. When accidents that ruin a section of the propeller happen, trained Hydrex divers can crop the blades in such a way that a correct hydrodynamic balance is attained and maximum efficiency can still be achieved from the repaired propeller.

Hydrex also cleans and polishes propeller blades, taking off marine growth and polishing the blade's surface in order to restore efficiency. We also carry out the replacement of blade seals. Our teams of professional divers are trained to find a solution for every specific situation.
